Tonya is a board-certified Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA). She is a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and is a National Certified Counselor (NCC). Tonya completed her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Grace College & Seminary, graduating with honors. She believes it is essential to meet every client where they are; for some, that includes theological concepts, while others prefer a more secular approach.
Tonya works with clients as they put together pieces of their puzzle, listening nonjudgmentally; and offering resources and guidance. This collaborative effort organizes the pieces to create a cohesive picture for holistic care. She often incorporates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in her counseling approach, as she believes that pain is an unavoidable part of life and that attempts to avoid pain or uncertainty cause increased suffering. Learning how to process life’s ups and downs and live in the present moment helps one adapt to life’s challenges.
Tonya has experience working with men and women and has a particular affinity for college-aged students, having spent a year counseling on a college campus before coming to LifeCare. Some areas of interest include anxiety, depression, grief/loss, identity, and spiritual concerns.
