Catherine Doster, MA, LCMHCA

Catherine will begin seeing clients on November 12, 2024.

Catherine is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in North Carolina, National Certified Counselor, and EMDR-trained clinician. She earned her B.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College (Annapolis, MD), an M.A. in Theology from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (South Hamilton, MA), and her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with additional trauma training from Richmont Graduate University. Catherine is a member of the American Counseling Association; the International Association for Resilience & Trauma Counseling; The International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation; and the American Association of Christian Counselors.

Her journey into counseling has been eclectic; from ministry to marketing and editing, to higher education, to non-profit youth and community building. This gives her not only a versatile skill set, but also an extensive, compassionate, and sensitive understanding of the varied experiences and backgrounds that individuals bring into the counseling room. This journey has also yielded an integrative and holistic lens that understands and attends to the mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual components of health and well-being.

Catherine seeks to holistically care for, sit with, and steward the stories of the individuals she walks alongside by offering a compassionate, collaborative, transparent, nonjudgmental, trauma-informed, and client-centered approach to the therapy process. She is passionate about creating space in which clients feel safe, seen, and heard so that they may share and wrestle vulnerably and authentically. Ultimately, Catherine seeks to help individuals, couples, and families find hope, healing, restoration, purpose, and flourishing in their unique stories.

She enjoys working with individuals and couples, ages 18+, using family systems, developmental, inner child/parts work, EMDR, mindfulness-based CBT, and/or psychodynamic psychotherapy approaches, and will draw from others to meet each client’s unique needs and goals. Her primary specializations include:

  • Women’s Issues
  • Perinatal/Maternal Mental Health
  • Chronic, Complex, & Developmental Trauma Recovery & Processing (EMDR & Inner Child work)
  • Religious/Spiritual Trauma
  • Marriage/Relationship Issues
  • Family of Origin/Attachment Relationships
  • Adjustment/Life Transitions
  • Parenting
  • Anxiety
  • Grief & Loss
  • Spiritual Issues
  • Spiritual Deconstruction & Reconstruction

Outside of the counseling room, Catherine is a life-long learner, an avid long-distance runner, hiker, soccer player, bibliophile, musician, and all-around outdoor enthusiast. She enjoys spending time with friends and family, especially her husband, three young children, and golden-doodle.
