The Safe and Sound Protocol
What is Safe and Sound Protocol?
The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a gentle, evidence-based listening therapy which uses specially filtered music to help regulate the nervous system. By sending signals of safety to the body, the SSP can reduce stress, improve emotional balance, and make it easier to build meaningful relationships.
Why would I use Safe and Sound Protocol?
By establishing a foundation of physiological safety, the nervous system is better equipped for recuperation and meaningful engagement in both therapeutic work and daily rhythms. This intervention can offer significant support for individuals navigating the complexities of trauma, anxiety, depression, or neurodevelopmental differences such as ADHD, autism, and sensory processing difficulties.
Potential Outcomes and Benefits:
- Heightened resilience and a reduction in chronic stress
- Enhanced capacity for emotional self-regulation
- Strengthened social bonds and interpersonal connections
- More profound participation in the counseling process
- Decreased sensitivity to auditory environmental stimuli
- Improved gastrointestinal health, a deeper internal sense of safety, and relief from physical pain
How is the Safe and Sound Protocol delivered?
Clients listen to a total of five hours of acoustically modified music via a secure smartphone app (such as the Unyte Health app) paired with high-quality, over-the-ear headphones.
Individual listening sessions typically last between 15 to 60 minutes. Providers carefully pace these sessions over days, weeks, or months depending on the individual's comfort and nervous system tolerance.
