Catherine Saunders, MA, LCMHCA

Counselor

As a late diagnosed Autistic and ADHDer, Catherine intimately understands the complex mix of emotions that come with unmasking after spending a lifetime trying to make herself fit into a mold that was never meant for her. She has navigated the feelings of grief for missed support in her childhood as well as the relief of finally knowing and understanding who she is. Her lived experience has made her passionate about helping others on similar paths.

Catherine loves helping clients learn to accommodate themselves, understand, name, and identify their emotions safely without overwhelm, and to build confidence to take up space as their authentic neurodivergent selves. She firmly believes that neurodivergent brains are unique, not broken, and deserve the tools and coping skills made for them. For her, God makes this truth a no-brainer as she believes each of us was fearfully and wonderfully made, neurodivergence and all.

She also enjoys working with people pleasers, peacemakers, high achievers, and perfectionists, guiding them in setting boundaries, prioritizing self-care, embracing imperfection, and enhancing self-esteem.

Her therapeutic approach is informed by her own experiences and includes the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model and Emotional Freedom Tapping (EFT) Technique. She integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Therapy as needed, adapting her methods to each client’s preferences, needs, and spiritual beliefs.

Catherine is dedicated to creating a safe, accepting space to come as you are where all are welcome and capable of true and lasting transformation. She believes everyone has the capability to face and conquer their struggles, whatever they may be, and is passionate about helping clients discover and enhance their own abilities.

Areas of training:

  • Internal Family Systems Online Circle: Foundations of the IFS Model
  • ACEP Emotional Freedom Tapping Technique Level 1

She has experience working with adolescents, young adults, and mature adults on issues such as depression, anxiety, grief, identity, self-esteem, and life transitions. As a Christian, Catherine acknowledges that others have differing beliefs, and she welcomes those from all different backgrounds and spirituality.

As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate, Catherine holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from North Carolina State University and a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Liberty University.
